 SCHOLARSHIPS
Application Period for 2010 – January 1  through March 3, 2010

 Eligibility

General Scholarship requires an applicant  to be a  2010  San Diego County high school graduate who is entering college in the Fall.   Awards range between  $500- $1,000.

Alice Newell Joslyn Medical Fund requires an applicant to be entering the Medical/Health Care profession and  to be living in or attending a  high school or college in San Diego  County at the time of application.  Awards  range between $l,000 - $2000 per academic year.  Recipients may re-apply contingent on scholastic progress.

LAFS – Cal State University San Marcos (CSUSM) General Scholarship -  Open to all  Cal State University – San Marcos (CSUSM)  Latino students  enrolled in at least  6 or more units with no preference given to unit load ; students must be enrolled in  the Spring semester of the application period and the Fall semester of the award period; may be  eligible to reapply and be considered equally as new applicants; must be in good academic (2.0 GPA) administrative standing  at CSUSM ; and,  Graduate students in an approved post-bachelors program are eligible as recipients.      (Download CSUSM/LAFS-BECA App.)

development  of its members by fostering fellowship and cooperation among
members,  and to serve the Latino community through cultural activities and
education)

Recipients are expected to use the monies in conjunction with other resources to meet tuition, fees and other expenses.

Applications - Applications  for  2010 will be accepted  from January 1 through March 3, 2010.  With the cooperation of San Diego County school districts, the community and the BECA website, the Scholarship Committee screens and evaluates all applications and identifies candidates for  scholarship  considerations.   

Selection Process - The Selection Process is based on a combination of factors: individual’s financial need and merit, essay,  letters of recommendation, community service and a personal interview. Final candidates will be asked to report for a formal interview and based upon final evaluation,  recipients are chosen and notified.
